| History:
The Building
Chartered in 1886, the trolley helped transform Yonkers from
a densely packed urban core to a booming suburban city; by
1911 the Yonkers system was serving over 14 million passengers
annually.
METRO92 is located in a former trolley barn, a three-story
brick building built in 1900 in the Renaissance Revival style,
forming a V-shape at the corner of Main Street and Buena Vista
Avenue. It was formerly used by the City of Yonkers –as
a “resting” place for a fleet of trolley cars
that wove throughout this bustling City in the over a century
ago.
